OHIO UNIVERSITY PERCUSSION AUDITION REQUIREMENTS
All students are welcome to contact Professor Braun ([email protected]) to discuss the audition process and repertoire choices.
UNDERGRADUATE
Undergraduate percussion auditions are scheduled for 30 minutes. Auditioning students should prepare solos or etudes that demonstrate experience in the following areas of percussion:
- Snare Drum
- Mallets
- Timpani
Auditioning students will also be asked to demonstrate fundamental skills in these areas of percussion: rudiments, scales, timpani tuning, and sight-reading on snare drum and mallets.
If desired, prepare selections to show additional skills in the areas of drum set, multiple percussion, or world percussion.
GRADUATE
Auditioning students are encouraged to showcase the breadth and depth of their musicianship in all areas of percussion. The audition will include sight-reading on mallets and snare drum. Auditions are scheduled for 60 minutes. There will also be a brief interview for those interested in the teaching assistantship in percussion.
RECORDED AUDITIONS
Students residing in the continental United States are encouraged to audition in person. The live audition provides students the opportunity to meet faculty and explore the campus. There are also a variety of activities that take place on each audition day that seek to provide students with a complete picture of the School of Music and our curricular offerings. Students who are unable to travel to campus may elect to submit an audition recording via YouTube, Vimeo or similar service that contains a live performance by the applicant of the required audition material.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
All applications and auditions must be received and completed by March 1st in order to receive full scholarship consideration.
